3 Must-Try St. Patrick’s Day Mocktails the Whole Family Can Enjoy

Posted by Annette Bellisari on

Whether we have a drop of Irish blood or not, St. Patrick's Day has become one of the biggest parties of the year for us here in the U.S.A. The celebration is a tradition for many families and friend groups. Almost always, the day involves drinking vast quantities of green beer, Irish whiskey, and other “lucky” spirits. “Vast quantities” might be the key phrase in that sentence. It’s been such a drunken holiday in the past that many colleges and universities actually plan their Spring Breaks so that students won’t be on campus on March 17th! This year, St. Paddy’s Day falls smack dab in the middle of the week, so if you're joining in the fun, you might need to think about what you’re going to feel like for school or work on Thursday morning. Thankfully, we don’t need booze to have fun! This year, include the whole family in the festivities by serving a few great “mocktails” for the occasion.

These beverages are absolutely delicious as is, but if someone wants a cocktail, adults could certainly spike theirs with the alcohol of their choice. These 3 St. Patrick’s Day-themed recipes bring a fun and tasty formula to fit every taste in the family. Mix one (or all 3!) of these up and start spreading the Irish cheer!

Shamrock Shake

1 cup milk (any kind)
2 tablespoons matcha
1 tablespoon honey
Handful ice

Shake Topping
Whipped cream
Chocolate syrup
Green sprinkles
Maraschino cherries

Blend the first five ingredients all together and top with whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate syrup, and green sprinkles. Minty and refreshing, Shamrock Shakes are so easy to make right at home in just 5 minutes. They’re a delicious St. Patrick’s Day (or ANY day) treat! (Don’t skip on the whipped topping, green sprinkles and maraschino cherries; they make for such a beautiful presentation and taste awesome, too!).

Pot of Gold

1 cup Pineapple juice
1 cup coconut water
1/2 cup sparkling water

Mix in a large container with ice. Top with 1 small scoop of your favorite sherbert. For a springtime drink—whether it's St. Patrick's Day or not—this is a gem that may soon become a new favorite.

Rainbow Runner

1 cucumber, seeded and sliced
2 large limes, juiced
1 tablespoon agave
1/2 cup ice

Blend it all together.  This Rainbow Runner recipe makes a cool, crisp libation with just the right amount of lime tartness.
These festive drinks are always a hit at any St. Patrick’s Day gathering, and it’s nice that everyone at the party can enjoy them. I’ve been making these for my boys on St. Patrick’s Day for a few years now. For them, the holiday isn’t complete without one. Happy St. Paddy’s Day, Erin go Bragh, and Sláinte from all of us at Bellisari’s!
